From 2009 until 2026, Intimate Voices presented concerts of classical and contemporary repertoire played by world-class musicians in an annual concert series at its acoustically excellent home venue, the Conservative Synagogue Adath Israel of Riverdale (CSAIR) in Riverdale, the Bronx. In addition, Intimate Voices had a portfolio of donated events in the broader community, bringing music to the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx and other area nursing homes and rehab facilities, as well as to special-needs children and their families.
The musicians of Intimate Voices brought a wealth of concert experience in venues all over the globe to the lovely and intimate CSAIR sanctuary, an ideal setting for experiencing the immediacy and intensity that is at the heart of chamber music. The programming included masterworks of the repertoire as well as wonderful but lesser-known works of the past and present, balancing the new and the familiar, with pieces that challenge as well as delight and with a special interest in compositions by composers who perished or suffered greatly during the Holocaust. The musicians introduced the pieces in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, and refreshments and a reception with the musicians following the concert added to the intimacy of these special evenings.
The musicians also focused on playing for special-needs children and their families, and for those in nursing homes and rehab centers who are unable to attend concerts. We presented an annual free sensory/autism-friendly afternoon Family Program at CSAIR, played for classes of children at a local special-needs pre-school, and brought our music to residents in multiple units of the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx and at other area nursing homes and rehab facilities, all thanks to strong support from the community and the generous sponsorship of NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital.
